Sports College

We are extremely proud of our Specialist Sports College status.  We are at the hub of the Government’s Strategy to enhance young people’s opportunities to participate in a wide range of sports.

We also use our specialism to raise the standards of teaching and learning in PE and school sport, and across the curriculum.

We believe our specialist sports status ensures our students are healthy and active and is definitely the best specialism to have. Our second target setting subject in the specialist Sports bid is ICT.

The Director of Specialism is Lisa Austin, the Head of PE and Sport is Emma Ball and there is a Cross Curricula Specialism Team of staff who are using sport as a vehicle for driving whole school improvement. We have also been able to create additional staff development opportunities through the Sports College Status eg: Life Skills Coach, Extended Schools Co-ordinator and the Specialism Impact Team. We also access a range of additional Sport Coaches to enhance PE & school sport in the curriculum and beyond.

Through our affiliation with the Youth Sport Trust we access a huge range of programmes to enhance learning, health and PE and school sport.

As a Specialist Sports College we have positioned PE and Sport at the centre of the curriculum, using it as a vehicle to develop and improve learning opportunities for all. The school is working towards all the Specialist School objectives for Sports Colleges which are:

  • Extend the range of opportunities in PE and sport
  • Raise the standard of teaching and learning in PE and in school
  • Develop and foster links with other local schools
  • Provide the Government objective of 2 hours high quality PE per week-PSA Agreement
  • Share good practice
  • Be involved in all National Initiatives and competitions
  • Take a lead role in the Government PESSYP strategy
  • Host a SSCO Partnership

Our School Sport Partnership is North Trafford School Sport Partnership .  The Partnership Development Manager is Rachel Redmond and she is based on site. Our school SSCO is Belinda Cashin.  Forty four schools are members of our School Sport Partnership, who are working towards the 5 hour offer - at least two hours of high-quality PE and sport at schools — with the expectation that this will be delivered totally within the curriculum; and an additional three hours beyond the school day delivered by a range of school, community and club providers.

Please visit Youth Sport Trust (YST) and  Specialist Schools for a wealth of useful information for staff and parents.

In terms of Student Voice we have Sport Leaders and a Sports Council, who meet regularly to lead sporting developmental work. Two of our students are also the Sporting Ambassadors for North Trafford School Sport Partnership. See YST website for details of this programme.
